🚨 IN YOUR TANK
You have 2 susceptible animal(s): 🪸 Acropora SPS, 🐚 Turbo Snail.
One of the most frustrating reef pests. Photosynthetic single-celled organisms that form slimy brown or golden sheets with strings of mucus. Produce toxins that kill corals and fish. Thrive in low-nutrient tanks — the opposite of most algae problems.
🔍 IDENTIFICATION
Brown, golden, or rust-colored slimy coating on sand and rocks. Stringy mucus threads. Bubbles of oxygen trapped in the slime. Disappears in the morning (contracts at night), reappears during lighting. Smells like raw fish.
🛡 PREVENTION
Maintain balanced nutrients — phosphate 0.03–0.1 ppm (don't go too low)
Avoid sudden large nutrient crashes
Strong circulation with no dead spots
